Even before I was born, music had a major presence in my life.
My family is musical and dance and music were part of our daily lives. When I was 7 years old I started playing the violin and soon I was playing in youth orchestras and playing a lot of "organized" music.
I participated in all kinds of musical projects and when I was pregnant with our first child I played my last concerts with the CREA orchestra in Amsterdam, the symphony orchestra of the University of Amsterdam.
I always felt a spark in my body when I heard drums and really enjoyed the percussion and powerful brass instruments in my orchestra. As a child I never felt the space to explore that spark further, but when my first child was born and I received my first Shamanic drum gift, that changed.
Layne Redmond's book "When the drummers where women" helped me remember how we worshiped the Great Goddess with our drums and how we played the drums to support Rites of Passages, such as pregnancy and birth.
I soon bought a large Hand Frame drum and started improvising more and more with music and rhythms. One day I met a sweet sisterfriend who also liked to improvise with her drum. Together we embarked on a journey of discovery in which we started making sounds together with our drums, our voices and other instruments.
I have discovered that it can be very powerful to release tones, sounds and rhythms from our body. Without premeditated words or harmonies. In the moment, beautiful vibrations can arise, tissues of light.
During my pregnancy I used voice liberation and other embodying practices such as sensual breathing & dancing as a tool to awaken my intuition and connect with the children in my belly.
I consciously made contact with the space of my sacrum, pelvis, womb, in connection with my breathing and the rest of my body. This connection created room for the wisdom of my body and children.
Now I share these discoveries with women from all around the world in circles and in private (online) sessions.
